thingy things: riverside: musings: and of course: new: york

i am currently mildly obsessed with the Blake/Duncan double suicide. morbid you say? tres, but look, they were darlings of the new york hob nobbery art scene, lovers, brilliant & beautiful. and poof, they move to LA, gain increasingly paranoid about Scientologist spies and government conspiracies, force friends to sign "loyalty oaths" and accuse rocker Beck as single-handily coreographing their demise. i was voraciously reading the article as only The Rag can tell it within its preening, self-righteous gloss...when suddenly i threw the mag down, looked up, and took notice of the gorgeous sunset before me over the hudson. after my daily jaunt down the river trail i settled on a grassy spot with a clear view of the river and reveled in the uncharacteristic-for-august 70 degree weather. and i thought, "damnit, i don't CARE about this, self-indulgent, narcissistic artists!" and i stared firmly at the bobbing yacht before me, wondering how old the hedge funder who owned it was....and again, the disdain for my own fascination and the disdain for the artists who so selfishly took themselves out of this world (poetically too- she- a cocktail of pills and burbon, he- walked into the atlantic and never came out) and the disdain for the prentiousness of the new york art scene (just like every other scene-- the fashion, the music, the design, the food scene, the brooklyn vegan scene) all reared into one giant sigh of disgust. but then, looking out over the hudson in the cool of the evening, with the trees and the people and the lovely views, the disgust subsided and the pendulum of my affection for new york calibrated itself once more. i really do LOVE this city. home.

miss provo, a tad
i always have pangs of missing provo...the canyon, my friends, driving up southfork, tea at jonjon's, gross sushi, center street, the black hair and the angst, you know...all that good stuff and of course this. you know, provo really is the little music scene that could....and watching this makes me miss it a tad sad, well, my old inner indie kid at least

london in new york

if i didn't know any better i'd swear i was still in london right now....weather due to global warming or armageddon, the normally sweltering 90 degree heat and 90% humidity as common to new york augusts has cooled to an amazing 59 degrees-- and rain! yesterday I was walking in riverside park and had the distinct feeling of walking through hyde park. it was all rain-soaked and earthy and gorgeous. i'm loving it!
ps-- that was a Record Low for a New York August!

kelsey comes to visit

the newly wedded kelsey COSGROVE came to visit today briefly as she was with the cosgrove clan in jersey....we strolled through central park, had dessert at the famous parisian cafe lalo-- and if they're going for "authentic" with their service too they hit it spot on-- it took them aobut 2.5 hours to get through the slow service....for those of you who've ever dined at les deux maggot on saint germain you know what i mean. but the chocolate midnight cake was divine. it was great as usual to see one of my oldest friends, scott and i are planning a trip out to boston soon to visit them and see the new ICA museum. good times.
